BEIJING - Thailand is facing its worst floods in more than 50 years, with more than 360 people dead and 100,000 displaced by the flooding. One third of all provinces were inundated. Three months of heavy monsoon rain have left swathes of the country flooded. Northern and central areas were worst hit initially but now the run-off is draining south to the sea and parts of the capital could be inundated by up to 1.5m (5ft) of water. Thai people are suffering from both spiritual and economical damages.
Facing the disaster, the University Sports Board of Thailand (USBT) was still keeping its promise to the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) and Asian university students, striving to prepare for the 1st Asian University Golf Championship to be held from December 13th to 16th in Hua Hin. It was quite encouraging to know that Hua Hin, located in the southern part of Thailand (200 km. away from Bangkok), was not affected by the flood and the transportation from Bangkok Airport to Hua Hin will be arranged via Express way cross over Bangkok city from east to south west. Thai people’s optimism and persistence were quite touching. It is firmly believed that the situation inThailand will be improved soon.
