Mancini bemoans fixture list

Roberto Mancini is disappointed Manchester City will have less time to prepare for next week's game against Liverpool than their opponents.

The Premier League leaders entertain Liverpool next Tuesday, just over 48 hours after City have visited Sunderland on New Year's Day.

In contrast, Kenny Dalglish's side meet Newcastle United on Friday and will have an extra two days to rest before the clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Mancini, whose side were held 0-0 at West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day, is unhappy with how the fixtures have been scheduled.

"I am disappointed only because we play 1 January and 3 January and Liverpool play 30 December and then 3 January against us," said Mancini.

"I think that at this moment this is not correct.

"I'm not happy with this situation because two days [of rest] in this moment when we play every three days is not correct.

"Sometimes the fixtures can [be] better because to play one game after four days and for us after 48 hours can make a difference."

Meanwhile, the City boss expects rivals Manchester United to head into 2012 on top of the table, with the reigning champions due to entertain bottom club Blackburn Rovers on New Year's Eve.

He added: "I think United will win the next game, which makes it more difficult for us against Sunderland.

"But I'm confident that we can do a good job by the end. Sometimes you don't win. It happens.

"It is impossible to stay top for all 38 games, but I think, generally, we will be right in there in contention.

"We will probably have another eight or nine games like this in the next 20 days."
