STEVEN GERRARD has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Liverpool for life.
And when he does retire, Gerrard, 31, will follow that with an ambassadorial role at Anfield.
The Reds skipper still has 18 months left on his deal but added another year.
Gerrard hit the penalty winner at Manchester City in Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final first leg.
He said: "Coming the day after City, this has been the icing on the cake — the perfect 24 hours.
"This is the club I love and have supported since I was a boy. I am living the dream as captain of one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"I love coming to work every day and the experiences I have had since I first signed for Liverpool at eight years of age, I wouldn't change for the world."
It is the perfect end to a turbulent two weeks for Reds boss Kenny Dalglish, after the controversy surrounding the Luis Suarez racism affair.
Dalgish, 60, said: "If you're happy, I don't see any reason to move — and it's fantastic for us that Steven hasn't.
"He's been a fantastic servant to the club so let's hope he gets past his present contract as well."
