Wenger rues missed chances

Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal paid the price for not making the most of their chances after being held to a goalless draw at Bolton on Wednesday night.

The Gunners could not break the deadlock against the Premier League strugglers despite coming close with a host of opportunities, particularly in the first half.

Captain Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott saw chances go begging, while promising youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also came close.

Wenger lamented his side's inability to convert those chances and admits they suffered the consequences by dropping two points.

"We played the game we wanted but we didn't take our chances and Bolton played defensively very focused," he told Sky Sports.

"As long as we didn't take our first chance, they had not to change their tactics."

Wenger had no fresh news on Jack Wilshere after it was confirmed earlier on Wednesday the midfielder had suffered a setback in his recovery from a long-term injury.

Arsenal have said his season is not necessarily over but the manager would not put a timeline on the teenager's rehabilitation.

He added: "(There's) no news. Nothing to add to what I've said recently.

"It's very difficult to say (how long he will be out) at the moment, I don't know."
