FABIO CAPELLO will be read the riot act today over his public stance that John Terry should not have been stripped of the England captaincy.
Angry FA chairman David Bernstein will have showdown talks with boss Capello and tell him to stop questioning the authority of his bosses — or he could be sacked for breach of contract.
Bernstein is 'fuming' Capello went on Italian TV to challenge the FA's decision to take the job off Terry.
The chairman had already made a public statement to camera on the FA website explaining why Terry had been demoted and that Capello understood the FA had the right to do it.
The FA are adamant they had no choice but to act once Terry's trial date for the alleged racial abuse of QPR's Anton Ferdinand was set for July 9 which is after the Euros.
Capello's open defiance has gone down badly with Bernstein and his board — but the England boss will not back down.
He believes Terry should still be captain and the principle of 'innocent until proven guilty' should be upheld.
Capello has told Terry he will take him to the Euros and the Chelsea skipper has vowed to carry on because of the manager's support.
Bernstein accepts Capello has the right to select Terry but he will be warned that if he does not get into line there will be serious problems and somehow the pair have to work out an uneasy truce.
If Capello is sacked he faces not getting £2.5million in compensation for the remaining five months on his contract.
England have a friendly against Holland at Wembley on February 29 but Terry is not expected to be fit for the game because of a knee injury.
Capello was last night backed by Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas and Manchester United's Alex Ferguson.
AVB said: "Capello has the right to his opinion and to share that defence with the player."
Fergie added: "When you are the manager of a team and have a captain that is an important part of that team then you don't want to lose him."
