GIANCARLO TAZZA won the gold medal in the men’s skeet shoot on August,21th, helping Italy to win its 10th gold medal in the Universiade.
“The competition was very tough because it was too hot for me,” said Tazza. He said he was lucky to make the final. “I missed the target twice in the semifinal and was very nervous. But luckily, Ralf Buchheim of Germany also missed twice, so I caught up with him eventually,” he said.
Tazza turned his back on his teammates during the final and many people thought he might have had a problem with them. “It was not like that. I did not want to see them shooting because it might distract me. I just wanted to focus on my performance,” he said.
Ralf Buchheim and Gorden Gosch of Germany took silver and bronze. On the women’s side, Monika Zemkova and Danka Brtekova of Slovakia won the gold and silver, while Yu Xiumin from China took the bronze. |
