Sponsor joins support of  2012 london olympic games

Organizers of the London 2012 Olympics are weeks away from meeting their 700-million pound ($1.1 billion) sponsorship target, ending a five-year funding and procurement program, the Financial Times reported.

Paul Deighton, chief executive of the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG), told the newspaper the body was "single-digit millions" away from its goal.

He added that after finalizing a few remaining sponsorship agreements it would "close down" the program.

The Olympic Games has been the biggest target for companies from around the world to promote their products and spread their brands internationally.

Acer is the worldwide partner of the Olympic movement for computing equipment. That means the company is in charge of the computing infrastructure, helping the LOCOG make the Games run perfectly from start to finish.

Acer has accepted the Olympic challenge because, like all the competing athletes, the company wants to prove its equipment and engineers are world-class champions capable of supporting the biggest sporting event in the world.

In order to guarantee success, more than 300 Acer staff will be on-site at the Games.

The LOCOG has also recently announced the signing of an agreement, which details the delivery of the core computing infrastructure that will be used to support the Games in 2012.

This is not the first Olympic Gamesexperience for Acer.

It also successfully implemented and supported the computing infrastructure for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
